The short answer
A Home Service Business Running Real Local Marketing
Usually spends between $1,499 and $4,999 a month, plus a one-time website build of $4,999 to $14,999 if the current site is not good enough to rank and convert.
The number moves with three things: how competitive your market is, how many cities you want to win, and whether you are starting from a working website or from nothing. Everything below is our actual price list, next to published survey data on what the rest of the market charges.

Why quotes differ by 5x
What Actually Moves the Number
When three agencies quote you $800, $3,500 and $9,000 for what sounds like the same service, they are pricing four different variables. None of them will tell you which.
01
Market Competition
Ranking a plumber in a town of 8,000 and ranking one across a metro of two million are not the same job. The second needs more pages, more placements, more months. This is the biggest driver of price and the one most quotes hide.
02
How Many Cities
Every city you want to rank in needs its own page with genuinely local content, not a template with the name swapped. That is real production work, and it is why a five-city build costs more than a one-city build.
03
Where You Start
A fast, well-built site with real service pages is a foundation you can rank. A slow 2015 template is a hole you pay to climb out of first. If the audit says the foundation will not hold, the build comes before the retainer.
04
How Fast You Need It
Organic search compounds and cannot be bought forward. Paid channels can. Needing calls in weeks rather than months means Local Services Ads or Meta on top of the organic work, which raises the monthly number.

Ahrefs · 439 providers

Average for local SEO specifically. All SEO work averages $2,917 a month, and 78.2% of providers bill a flat monthly retainer rather than hourly or per project.
SE Ranking · 260 agencies

Charge under $1,000 a month. A very different picture from the same industry, because the sample leans toward freelancers and small shops rather than established agencies. The same Ahrefs data shows agencies charge 138% more than freelancers, and providers with two or more years of experience charge 33% more.
Do the arithmetic yourself
Ask what the fee buys
Ahrefs puts the average SEO hourly rate at $111. At $300 a month, the entire retainer is under three hours of professional time before a single tool is paid for. One seat of Semrush is $139.95 a month at list and Ahrefs Lite is $129. Whatever else is true, the arithmetic has to leave room for the work.

Sizing it against revenue
What a Trade Business Should Budget
WebFX's home services budget handbook puts the average at 10 to 20% of revenue. Contractor-focused benchmark data lands most shops at 5 to 12%, climbing toward 10 to 15% in growth mode. Here is what those percentages look like as an actual monthly number.

Those four numbers come from SearchLight Digital's February 2026 Local Services Ads benchmark, which tracked $6.72M in spend across 888 contractors and 126,650 leads. At an average ticket of $1,826, a single booked job more than covers a month of entry-tier SEO. That arithmetic matters more than a percentage of revenue.

How to read a proposal
Six Terms That Should Cost Someone the Deal
Not opinions about competitors. Structural terms that quietly move risk from the agency onto you, and the question to ask when you see each one.
Proposal Checklist
Six things to check before you sign anything
A percentage of your ad spend
If the management fee rises with your budget, the incentive is a bigger budget, not better results.
What to ask instead
Is the management fee flat, or does it move with what I spend? Ours are flat.
A 12 or 24 month lock-in
Long contracts protect the vendor. Once you have signed, the urgency to perform is gone.
What to ask instead
What happens in month four if nothing has moved? Ours are month-to-month with 30 days notice.
A website you cannot take with you
If the site is built on the agency's own platform, leaving means starting over from nothing.
What to ask instead
Who owns the account, the domain, and the content, in writing? Yours are in your name from day one.
A report that only shows traffic
Impressions and sessions look fine while the schedule stays half empty.
What to ask instead
Does the report lead with calls and form fills tied to their source, or with sessions?
Any guaranteed ranking
Nobody can guarantee a position. Google says so in its own documentation.
What to ask instead
What exactly are you promising, and what happens if it does not land? A guarantee means either meaningless keywords or tactics that cost you later.
Pricing you cannot see until a call
A quote gate exists so the number can be set after they have sized your business.
What to ask instead
What does this cost, before we book a call? That question is the reason this page exists.

The terms, in plain words
Contracts, Ownership, and Leaving
The parts most agencies bury in a PDF you sign at the end of a call.
Term
No long-term contracts
Every monthly service is month-to-month with 30 days written notice. Two honest exceptions, and we would rather you read them here than find them later: website builds are a one-time project billed 50% deposit and 50% at completion, and Meta Ads carries a three-month launch phase because paid social needs that long to season the pixel. After that it is month-to-month like everything else.
Ownership
You own all of it
Your Wix account, your domain, your content, and your ad accounts are in your name from day one. Ad budgets are billed by Google and Meta directly to you, never through us. If you leave, everything the marketing was built on leaves with you.
Third-party cost
What is not ours to charge
Wix hosting is paid directly to Wix at their current rate. Your domain is $50 a year, or a one-time $100 transfer if you would rather move it. Ad spend goes to the platform. We do not mark any of it up, and none of it is bundled into the retainer to make the number look tidier.
Existing sites
If you already have a website
Our retainers are open to sites we did not build, and non-PxlPerfect sites get a free pre-engagement audit during the discovery call. If something technical is blocking results, we quote the fix as a separate one-time project before the retainer starts, so nobody pays for marketing a site that cannot rank.

Ours start at $4,999 one-time for the Framework build and $9,999 for Cornerstone, which covers 18 pages and 5 cities. Custom and multi-location builds start at $14,999 and get scoped to your actual footprint. Paying in full at kickoff saves $250 on Framework and $500 on Cornerstone and moves you to the next open build slot.
Four things, in this order. Published pricing, so the number is not set after they have sized your business. Month-to-month terms, so they have to earn the next month. Written confirmation that you own the site, domain, and ad accounts. And a report that leads with calls and form fills rather than traffic. If a proposal fails any of those four, the price is not the problem.
Published benchmarks vary by source and stage. WebFX's home services budget handbook puts the average at 10 to 20% of revenue, while contractor-focused benchmark data lands most shops at 5 to 12%, climbing toward 10 to 15% for growth-mode operations in competitive metros. In practice, weigh it against what one booked job is worth. For most trades a single install covers a month of SEO.
No. Every service on this page sells solo at the price listed. Plenty of clients start with a website or Google Business Profile work and add layers as results come in. The research phase runs either way, so whatever you start with is aimed at the demand in your market rather than a template.
Most home service businesses pay between $1,499 and $2,999 a month for local SEO, depending on how competitive the market is and how many cities they want to rank in. Google Business Profile management on its own is $499 a month. Across the wider market, Ahrefs' survey of 439 providers puts local SEO at $1,557 a month on average, while SE Ranking's survey of 260 agencies found 64% charging under $1,000, a sample weighted toward freelancers and small shops.
Because almost all of it is labor. A retainer buys research, written content, technical work, placements, and reporting, done by people, every month. Ahrefs puts the average SEO hourly rate at $111, so a $300 monthly fee is under three hours of professional time before a single tool is paid for, and one seat of Semrush or Ahrefs runs $129 to $140 a month at list. The number has to leave room for the work.
Ahrefs found 78.2% of providers bill a flat monthly retainer, averaging $2,917 across all SEO work and $1,557 for local SEO specifically. Our retainers are $1,499 and $2,999 a month, with custom strategy plans starting at $4,999 for multi-city footprints. A retainer buys a defined scope of work each month, not a guaranteed outcome.
There is no long-term contract on any monthly service. Everything is month-to-month with 30 days written notice, and you keep your site, your domain, and your ad accounts. Two exceptions worth stating plainly: website builds are a one-time project with a 50% deposit, and Meta Ads carries a three-month launch phase before going month-to-month.
